Book a Cappadocia balloon like this: put it on your first sunrise, stay two or three nights, pick a named valley on the calendar (Göreme, Çat or Soğanlı), type the hotel as it appears on the map, and pay in full or 50% deposit. If the morning briefing says no, take the rebook or the refund. Do not buy a substitute in the lobby.

That is the whole method. The rest is how those clicks work on Skyway, and the mistakes that leave people on the evening bus without a flight.

The six steps on our site

Start here: Cappadocia Hot Air Balloon Tour Over Fairy Chimneys. Private basket: private balloon. No flight: sunrise watching at €15.

Step 1 — Date: first morning, spare night

Put the balloon on the first sunrise after you arrive. Not the last. Weather cancels are normal; they are how the safety system works, as we wrote in is the balloon safe?. If Monday dies and you fly Tuesday night, you are done. If Monday dies and you still have Wednesday, you still fly.

Stay at least two nights, better three, if the balloon is the reason you came. November–March needs that spare morning more than September. Month-by-month weather is on the best time guide.

Step 2 — Pick the option, not “a balloon”

The calendar is not one product. The name next to the price is the product.

I will not tell you every shared basket in Cappadocia holds 28 people. Baskets differ. Comfort is sold as smaller. Private is your group. If a seller says “standard 28” as if that were a safety rating, ask for the operator name instead.

Step 3 — Guests, hotel, phone

Checkout asks for name, surname, email, phone, nationality, hotel, and notes. Use the phone that receives WhatsApp at 04:00. Hotel Wi-Fi drops. Type the hotel the way it is written on Google Maps, including “Cave” / “Stone” / “Hotel”. Pickup is in the dark from Göreme, Ürgüp, Uçhisar, Avanos, Ortahisar and nearby. A house with no sign needs a pin in the notes the night before.

Ages: shared flight 5–80. Children stand and follow a briefing. Pregnancy and serious heart conditions are a no. Wheelchair is a no on the flight — use watching. Do not surprise the crew with a four-year-old at the field.

Step 4 — Pay, confirmation, finding the booking

Pay by card. Full amount or 50% deposit; deposit leaves the rest before the morning. Currency on the site is EUR. TRY and USD follow the day’s rate. The charge goes through 3D Secure. You get an email with the booking code. Look it up later with that code and the email — no account required.

You can cancel for a full refund until 24 hours before the local start. Inside 24 hours, a guest cancel is not refunded. A weather or SHGM cancel is always rebook or full refund. Those are different buttons. Do not mix them up when you write to us at 22:00 the night before because you changed your mind.

Why the next day costs more after a cancel

When a valley is stopped, the people who did not fly want the next clear sunrise. The number of balloons does not increase. That is why our April Göreme column on the prices page shows both €45 and €200, and why the reschedule-guaranteed ticket is already expensive in spring. It is not a hidden fee we add for fun. It is a capped morning inheriting two days of demand.

Book peak months early. Last-minute “deals” after a cancel are usually the leftover expensive seats, not a discount.

Where to book — and where not to finish the job

You can find the same valleys on OTAs and at hotel desks. Our calendar is the one we load ourselves: date, option, live number. A hotel desk often has fewer options and a later price. An OTA is fine if you like their cancel button; just read whether they or the operator owns the weather refund.

What I will not do is send you into a lobby after a valley-wide cancel. If licensed flights are down, they are down. “Another company is still going” is the unsafe checkout.

Deposit, remaining balance, cart, codes

A 50% deposit holds the date. The other half is still due before you fly. The site emails a remaining-payment reminder; you pay with the booking code, no new account. If you leave Cappadocia without settling, you do not have a complete booking — do not assume the driver will “sort it in the field”.

You can put more than one tour in the cart and pay once: balloon plus ATV, or balloon plus a transfer. A discount code, if you have one, applies at checkout. It does not override the weather rule and it does not create a Göreme seat that is not on the calendar.

Nationality is not decoration. Crews use it for the passenger list. Write it as on the passport. Special requests (extra stop, birthday banner, a hotel outside the usual belt) are requests. They are not a promise we will invent a landing field or fly in wind.

What the confirmation actually contains

After 3D Secure you should have: booking code, option name (the valley), date, passenger count, amount paid (full or deposit), and our contact. Pickup time often follows later — sunrise moves through the year, so we do not print a fake 05:00 on every voucher. If the email is in spam, look up the code on the site before you message us that you “have no booking”.

If you booked through an OTA, their voucher is the one their support reads. Ours is the one our driver reads. Do not mix the two numbers in one WhatsApp thread at 04:20.

The night before and the morning of

We confirm pickup the day before. Keep the phone on. Closed shoes, layers, nothing loose over the basket. Pickup is often 04:30–05:30 in the warm months, later when sunrise is later. Field, briefing, snacks, inflate, 40–65 minutes, landing (hold on, bend knees), non-alcoholic toast, certificate, hotel. Photos for sale. Tips optional.

If the call is no: stay put, wait for us, pick a new date or the refund. The watching tour still runs on many mornings when the flight does not — €15, infants allowed, wheelchair accessible.

Mistakes we see every week

• Booking the last sunrise so one cancel ends the trip
• Typing “the stone hotel near the castle” instead of the mapped name
• Assuming a €40 Göreme “special” is the same product as the calendar
• Bringing a child under five and arguing at the basket
• Paying a driver for a flight after SHGM has stopped the valley
• Treating a guest cancel at 20:00 as a weather refund

What I would do if I were you tonight

1. Open the balloon tour.
2. Select your first Cappadocia morning.
3. If that date’s Göreme number is painful, look at Çat or Soğanlı on the same day before you look at another website.
4. If you cannot stay a spare night, say so in the notes — or buy the reschedule-guaranteed option if it is offered.
5. Pay. Screenshot the email. Sleep with the phone on the table, not on silent under a pillow.

That is a booking. Everything else is weather.
